four stories ornamented with corbels and colorful green tiled-roofs with yellow
ridges. The first three floors in the Exhibition Hall are used exclusively for presentations

Kuanyin, the goddess of mercy. For more than two centuries, it survived earthquakes
and war. Now it is one of the most popular temples in Taipei, and it is always packed
with people from all around the island. Smoke fills the chambers as worshipers burn

1980, the fifth anniversary of the death of Chiang Kai-shek, leader of Kuomintang.
The building's exterior in blue and white tones borrows heavily from traditional
Chinese architecture. The octagonal shape picks up the symbolism of the number 8,
a number traditionally associated in Asia with abundance and good fortune.

The Presidential Office Building:Before becoming the Presidential Office
Building of the Republic of China, the building was formerly the Office of the Governor-General
of Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period, and has thus played a significant
role as the center of political Power for nearly a century. In 1946, extensive repair
work was carried out to restore the great damage caused by Allied bombing during
World War II. Since the timing of the restoration's completion coincided with the
60th birthday of President Chiang Kai-Shek, it was renamed Chieh Shoo Hall. Although
the building has been the Presidential Office Building for over five decades, it
was not until 2006 that the name Chieh Shou Hall was dropped. The structure is now
officially referred to in English simply as the Presidential Office Building. In
July 1998, The Ministry of the Interior made the Presidential Office Building and
its neighboring open space a national historic site, occupying the city block between
Guiyang Street, Baoqing Road, Chongqing South Road, and Bo'ai Road in downtown Taipei.
The Presidential Office Building was built in a late-Renaissance style. The facade
features many classical elements, including colonnades, gables, arched windows,
brackets, Roman columns, and compound columns. The capitals of the columns are of
a clean-cut Doric style, while most of the walls and pillars are highly ornate,
            creating a splendid exterior.

Districts; and New Taipei's Wanli, Jinshan, and Sanzhi Districts. During the Japanese

Yehliu Geopark: There is a cape on the north coast of Taiwan in the town
of Wanli between Taipei and Keelung. It stretches approximately 1,700 meters into
the ocean and was formed as geological forces pushed Datun Mountain out of the sea.
A distinctive feature of the cape is the hoodoo stones that dot its surface. These
shapes can be viewed at the Yeliu Geopark operated by the North Coast and Guanyinshan
National Scenic Area Administration. A number of rock formations have been given
imaginative names based on their shapes. The most well-known is the "The Queen's
Head” an iconic image in Taiwan and an unofficial emblem for the town of Wanli.

floors are occupied by a capacious shopping mall incorporating many top brands,
such as LV, Dior, Celine, Gucci, Cartier etc. The tower has served as an icon of
modern Taiwan ever since it’s opening. Fireworks launched from Taipei 101 features

most of the district consisted of wetlands, which explains the abundance of space
for construction projects since it was one of the last areas in Taipei to be developed.

market — its food court holds 539 stalls. One of Shilin's most tasty treats is aiyu
